Remembering Anita Mui 1963 – 2003

Anita Mui Yim-fong died tragically young of cervical cancer 5 years ago today on 30 December 2003.

Here she is, together with Leslie Cheung, in one of her finest movie roles as the courtesan Fleur in Stanley Kwan's Rouge.

No ‘Dark Knight’ release in China

While  The Dark Knight  is already showing in Hong Kong, Warner Brothers has opted not to open it in China, or even offer it to government censors for their consideration.

Hong Kong movie fans will remember that the film includes a brief appearance by Edison Chen who retired from the local movie and popular music scene earlier this year after a scandal that saw sexually explicit photographs with several famous women posted on the Internet.

Might this be the real motivation behind the studio's decision?

The Warlords scoops best film at Chinese Oscars

Peter Chan's $40 million epic The Warlords about three Chinese mercenaries in 19th century China has won best film at the Chinese-language equivalent of the Oscars The Golden Horse Awards at the awards ceremony held in the central Taiwan city of Taichung on Saturday. The film, which stars Andy Lau, Jet Li, and Takeshi Kaneshiro, also won Chan the best director prize.
